Exploring the Fusion: Korean Cuisine Meets Italian Pasta

Exploring the Fusion: Korean Cuisine Meets Italian Pasta

If you're planning a trip to Korea, I highly recommend trying traditional foods based on health and nature. At the same time, visiting an Italian restaurant, a culinary experience available worldwide, can also be a delightful adventure. But have you ever wondered how Koreans cook and sell Italian pasta?

The trend of Italian cuisine in Korea dates back quite a long time. Back when the current 60-80-year-olds were young, American foods like hamburgers and pizzas were popular. However, as we moved past the 1980s, Italian restaurants began to emerge, and spaghetti and pasta evolved into new fusion dishes to suit Korean tastes.

Today, even in the hotspots of Seoul like Seongsu-dong, you can often find fusion Italian cuisine. Recently, chefs who have studied in Italy are bringing the authentic taste of pasta to Korea. This means you can encounter two versions of Italian food here.

I found a small gem where you can taste pasta influenced by Korean palates: a restaurant called 'Mi Table' (미테이블 성수) in Seongsu. Their unique feature is combining oil, cream sauce, and pasta, topped with seafood.

They also serve a steak topped with lobster. Generously filled with ingredients and flavored with melted butter, this dish is popular among young Koreans. The price is under $50, and you can enjoy pasta for half the price.

Keep in mind that while Korean cuisine meets Italian pasta to create new fusion dishes, they may not look drastically different from what you might eat in Italy. However, you'll experience the difference in taste and decoration, such as sauces rich with garlic and plenty of scallions.

Enjoy a delightful meal at a cozy restaurant and explore the famous cafe streets of Seongsu-dong for a culinary journey anyone can enjoy.
