5 LOCAL KOREAN SUMMER FOODS, YOU DIDN'T KNOW 한국 여름 음식

Let's think about Korean food, 'Bul Dak Bokkum Myun (Korean Spicy Noodle)' is comes to your mind? It's hot issue on the internet and YouTube, but it is not the whole thing!
I want to introduce you Koreans eat to win the hot summer weather. What do you eat when you feel the weather is hot? Sometimes you might eat ice cream, gelato, or other '-icy' things. but, there is idiom in Korea, "Fight the heat with the heat"! So sometimes we go sweat it out in the sauna to ward off the heat, not swimming pool. Or, we eat some foods. I think these are really Korean local foods that you hardly eat before.

1. Samgyetang (Chicken broth with ginseng) 삼계탕

There are three canicular days in Korea, cho-bok day, jung-bok day, mal-bok day (초복, 중복, 말복). On that days, people usually eat samgyetang(Korean chicken soup), so on that day, Samgyetang restaurants are crowded with people, sometimes you need to wait 1 hours more to eat this food. Maybe some travelers who from foreign countries heard about this food, we believe this chicken makes recover our health to tire in the midday heat. When you order a samgyetang, usually 3-4 people eat it together. You must find specialized restaurant, only do this menu.

2. Nurungi 누룽지

This is scorched rice (roasted rice), traditional Korean food. "After boiling and serving rice, a think or thick crust of scorched rice will usually be left in the bottom of the cooking pot. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nurungji) I love this food, and sometimes it served with samgyetang.

3. Jaeng-ban Makguksu 쟁반막국수 (Buckwheat noodles)

This is cool noodle! Makguksu is a traditional dish of Gangwon-do(South Korea- north province), made of buckwheat noodles served with spicy source. Sometimes we added vinegar. When makguksu is served to your table, mix them! There are many kinds of makguksu, such as tray makguksu, kimchi makguksu, etc. but the best combination is with no soup makguksu(Jaeng-ban makguksu) with samgyetang. Be careful, this food name start with 'Jaengban' is for more than 2 people! Because 'Jaengban' means 'broad dishes'!!!

4. Shabushabu Kalguksu with fried rice 샤브샤브 칼국수와 볶음밥

Is shabushabu is local traditional Korean food? I am not sure! but Shabu-shabu しゃぶしゃぶ is famous for japanese dish, thinly sliced meat and vegetables boiled in water, yes it is same way we eat. But this is Korean style shabu-shabu. After eat shabu shabu, we added kalguksu (Korean wheat-flour dough noodles) and eat. Plus, in the end, your server will make you fried rice with using little amount of soup! I love this food, you can experience 3 types of food at once, for one meal. When you visit Suwon, Korea, I can recommend where is famous local restaurant in here! I am sure that you will never forget this fried rice's taste.

5. Naengmyon 냉면 (Cold noodles)

This is the best food Koreans eat in hot summer days. Ultimate food!!! Yes, I love this noodle and you must experience when you visit Korea in summer. There is two types of Naengmyon, 1) Mool Naengmyon 물냉면, 2) Bibim Naengmyon 비빔냉면. I like no.2, because it is hard to make great soups for noodle, for mool naengmyon. Naengmyon's taste is depends on soups and its sauce. Bibim Naengmyon taste combines sweetness and sourness, cool!
So, I spend so long time for finding my style naengmyon restaurant, and finally I found a wonderful restaurant! My husband and I visit this Naengmyon restaurant at once a month. Anyway, real Korean restaurants only offer 1 or 2 types of dishes in their menu, so when you stepped in to Korean restaurants, if there are so many kinds of food, then just go another restaurant. Yes, sometimes that restaurant can cook all of the menu very well, but without KIMBOB CHONGUK 김밥천국 (Franchise small restaurant), maybe it is not famous for menu. So, finding real local food restaurant, which only famous for 1 or 2 types of menu!
