New Zealand Wine Festival 2024 in Seoul

Hosted by The Kiwi Chamber, the New Zealand Wine Festival, held twice a year from 2009 to today in Seoul and Busan, introduces high-quality New Zealand wine and various New Zealand food and beverage brands through unique themes every year. Today, I will talk about information from the event held in Grand Hyatt Seoul, participating wineries, and popular sauvignon blanc.

1. The purpose of the Festival

The event provides not only wine industry officials but also general consumers with the opportunity to experience New Zealand wine made using innovative wine production methods. It also plays a role in promoting New Zealand wine consumption by raising awareness of New Zealand wine and expanding positive views on New Zealand wine. It introduces New Zealand culture and lifestyle in Korea and has established itself as an event of unity and communication among local and international communities.

2. Event information & Ticket Prices

  The theme of the event, "Kia Ora," is a warm welcome and thank-you greeting in Māori, New Zealand, and "Aotearoa" represents New Zealand, a land of long, white clouds.

3. Highlights of Festival

Ahead of the Busan Festival, what I experienced firsthand in this 2024 New Zealand Wine Festival - Seoul - was the participation of more diversified New Zealand wineries and the number of wines. A total of 25 wineries participated this time, including Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and Central Otago Pinot Noir.

The festival featured a five-star hotel barbecue & seafood buffet in Grand Hyatt Seoul. It also featured food and beverage and wine products representing New Zealand, as well as Maori traditional haka performances and live DJ music, as well as New Zealand air tickets and various prizes. Prizes can be received through participation in Raffle, and many participated in Raffle and won prizes from various sponsors.

Amid the importance of "sustainable development" around the world, premium wines grown in a sustainable manner are also in the spotlight in the wine industry. In particular, the wineries that participated this time were also attracting attention for their environmentally conscious cultivation methods.

5. Memorable Food and Wine

This year's event also had Jesfree kiwis, NZ honey, and pineapples, and what was particularly memorable was Tarahina Freeze driven honey sold by a New Zealand company. The CEO personally came to introduce the product, and the product was introduced by freeze-drying honey from the beekeeper. It went very well with sauvignon blanc. I also introduce a memorable wine list.

(1) Saint Clair Pioneer Block 14 Doctor's Creek Marlborough Pinot Noir 
 
Saint Clair Pioneer Bloc 14 Pinot Noir is said to be grown on Doctors Creek single Vineyard and aged in French oak barrels for 10 months. As Sinclair is a pioneer of Marlboro Sauvignon Blanc and at the same time famous for its Pioneer Bloc series, I enjoyed it as much as possible. I felt the body quite well and thought it would go well with the lamb, so I paired it. I could see that Park Hyatt Seoul Chef cooked the lamb very well.

 

(2) Oyster Bay Oyster Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2023 
This winery brand is one of the popular wines loved internationally, and it is easily found around us, so it is highly accessible. Marlboro, one of the best vineyards in NZ, is located on the top of the South Island and is said to create a clean taste with abundant sunlight in a cool climate. It is a bright lemon color with brilliant transparency and a fragrant and refreshing flavor that captured my heart.

 

(3) Stone Bay Marlborlough Sauvignon Blanc 2023
Stone Bay, a New Zealand winery brand that Koreans like, has the freshness and freshness of citrus fruits and green grape flavors. The balance of aroma, slight acidity, and minerality was good, and above all, the fish shape on the label was inspired by the fish-shaped piece worn by the Maori people around their necks.

As the atmosphere was ripe, performers dressed in traditional Maori costumes and makeup filled the stage at the Grand Hyatt Seoul Waterfall Garden. During the traditional cultural performance, which left a strong impression visually, people familiar with the culture shouted and responded together. Thanks to The Kiwi Chamber of Commerce in Korea, Koreans were also grateful to see this wonderful performance.
